Pediatric Mental Healthcare Scholarship
Part of our mission is to Help Address the Pediatric Mental Health Crisis. I define the current Pediatric Mental Health Crisis as there are soaring rates of anxiety and depression amongst students, and there aren't enough professionals to treat them. We experienced this ourselves when trying to find help for Kevin. We ended up going through 12 psychiatrists before we found one that we could get an appointment with. We actually did get an appointment for Kevin; it was 2 weeks after he died. Many are not on insurance plans, do not call you back, or their answering machines say that they are no longer taking patients. Psychiatrists have the ability to do a baseline evaluation and prescribe medication that can help with depression. There are 9.75 psychiatrists per 100,000 children, the estimated number of psychiatrists needed to meet that demand is 47. We want to help those students who want to become a pediatric mental healthcare provider! We want them to join the battle!
